DEADLINE TO REGISTER:  Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 5:00 pm.

Please read the information below:
WHO: Registration is open to all regular and religious education 4-8th grade students of St. Patrick School; children of registered parishioners of St. Patrick Church and to children of the general public who reside within the parish boundaries of St. Patrick Church.  3rd graders play in the Dirt Bowl under Kerry Huffman.  Dirt Bowl is not affiliated with St. Patrick's CYO.
Priority registration is given in the following order:
1. Enrolled at St. Patrick School or St. Patrick CFF

2. Players residing within the St. Patrick Church boundaries

COST: $250.00 Per Child - Payments will be processed through on-line registration. Refunds will not be issued unless your child cannot be placed on a team. If you have any special financial concerns regarding fees or the cost of uniforms, e-mail us (see below).  Please complete your payment when you register.  Players will not be placed on a team until is payment is received.

SEASON: Practices begin mid-November, regular season begins in January and playoffs end in mid-March.

UNIFORMS: Each player will be responsible for purchasing a new St Patrick CYO Basketball uniform (jersey and shorts). The cost of the uniform is estimated to be $60.00.  The uniform style will hopefully be the same for a few seasons, however, manufacturers have been known to change mid-stream.  We anticipate that your child will be able to use the uniform for 2 seasons. We use T&B Sports in San Rafael for our uniform orders.

TEAM ASSIGNMENTS: The St Patrick CYO Committee follows an unbiased evaluation process to create teams.  The objective is to match the skill level of players to the team that best fit their ability.  The St Patrick CYO Board will approve, sanction, and have final authorization over the formation of all teams following the formal evaluation process.  Coaches will contact the kids directly on their team assignments later in October or early November.  It may be as long as 2 weeks after the last evaluation before teams are finalized and players notified.

PARTICIPATION IN PLAYER EVALUATIONS FOR "A" TEAM SELECTIONS ARE MANDATORY. Evaluations will be held the weeks of October 4 – 17  (specific dates and times TBD).  We are planning on holding evaluations during weekday evenings.  We will have one A team evaluation per grade (Boys and Girls). Due to limited gym space during October, the evaluations will be spread out over a 2-week period. We have tried weekend evaluations in the past, but because of conflicts with other sports, it has been problematic.   Dates will be forwarded when available.  All players are encouraged to attend the evaluation as it helps not only allow for the A team selection, but assists in the B team assignments.
Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few things that will be important to you.  We will always try to over communicate to insure you are all up to date.

Registration:  If you want to attend the evaluations, then you need to register before the evaluations.  If you are late, please send an e-mail to stpatrickshoops@gmail.com to be put on the wait-list.  Please do not come to the evaluations without registering.  If we have room we will put you on a team.  If we do not and you come to the evaluations, you will have set your child up for disappointment.  The registration period is a month long.  Once we close registration we begin to set the number of teams and arrange our limited practice slots.  That process will determine if people are added off the wait-list.

1. November 15 is the last day for refunds.  If you plan to exit the program, please do so before Nov 15 to get a full refund.  Nov 16 and on, no refund.

2. Team size.  Due to gym shortage issues, we may have more kids on a team vs more teams.   We prefer 10 kids to a team, but we may need to go to 11 or even 12.

3. Practice times:   Practices start early or mid-November.  The times are never perfect and not close to long enough.  Coaches select practice times through a draft process, so changes are not usually made.  We will not move players to different teams due to practice schedules.

4. Game times:  You will get info mid-Dec. Games begin early January.  The season, including playoffs, runs through to St. Patrick’s Day.

5. Switching to another team:  Once you are assigned to a team it is almost impossible to switch, as the ripple effects can be challenging for all.  Please don’t request a coach...odds are if you loved your coach last year then ot is likely that everyone loved him or her.

6. Gyms:  You will get a lot of messages from me on this as it is mission critical.  No food, snacks, or pets in the gym ever.   Please don’t let your dog into the gym.  Water bottles must be taken out after every practice.   If you forget, it could get our entire program kicked out of the gym for this year and beyond.   Schools are very clear on this and they enforce it.  This isn't baseball...1 strike and we are out.  Don't take this lightly, as it would affect 100's of kids.

7.  Gyms:  Re-read point 6 above.

8. Best way to communicate with the program is through the e-mail.  Again...email is the best.  Not our personal e-mails…stpatrickshoops@gmail.com.  Assume 24-48 hours for a response. There are a few of us who will monitor it.  Remember, CYO is not our job or even our hobby.  We do it for the kids and because we think we can make it fun and/or someone turned off the lights and left us holding the gym keys and ball bags.  We stole this from Kerry Huffman, but it addressed the issue so well….. Don't send the nasty email or nasty "you killed Johnny's NBA hopes by not putting him on Jack's team " or "my child is an A team player" call, as it will result in your extra ski vacation time suddenly becoming an exciting reality for you and me.  Watching the kids move on to high school this year, there are many "B" players who will be playing high school ball in Marin and SF schools this year, so don't get hung up on the "A" / "B" thing.  We all want what is best for our kids.  We have all dealt with success and disappointment.  Between the 4 of us who work on this committee, we have a total of 11 children, so we have heard and seen it all.

9. Team selection criteria.  We put together teams based on skill for the A teams and balance for the B teams.  We will not leave any kids out in the breeze without a friend or classmate if we are made aware of it.  With that said, we will not be able to grant all wishes.  There are just too many kids.  Last year we had 320 players.
